Sound Sense: Supporting reading and writing in years 1–3

Sound sense logo

A revised and updated edition of Sound Sense: Phonics and Phonological Awareness is now available online and as a downloadable PDF.

The ability to hear the different sounds within words is essential to reading and writing successfully. Sound Sense provides practical suggestions for how you can support students, especially those in year 1, to develop and apply understandings about sounds, letters, and words when learning to read and write.

Sound Sense features examples from Ready to Read shared books and poem cards, all of which are available in your school. (Replacement copies of these shared texts can be ordered through Down the Back of the Chair.)
