Teacher support materials

The School Journal supports students in years 4−8 to develop the knowledge and skills required to meet the reading demands of all the curriculum areas. Since 1907, the School Journal has delivered New Zealand content to motivate, excite, and engage students across the curriculum. And for the first time, the School Journals are available in digital form as well as print, giving you more ways to use these resources with your students.

A grand tradition continues: read more about the the history of the School Journal in the Education Gazette article online.

Teacher support materials

Teacher support materials are available for three items from each School Journal. Teachers can use these materials as a basis when planning how to work with similar texts that may not have TSMs.

The Journal’s Century Poster

The Journal’s Century poster and accompanying teachers’ notes was distributed to each New Zealand school in June 2007. The poster celebrates one hundred years of continuous publication of the New Zealand School Journal. It is designed to be used in conjunction with the centenary book A Nest of Singing Birds: 100 years of the New Zealand School Journal by Gregory O’Brien, which has also been distributed to all New Zealand schools, and the four centenary issues of the School Journal published in May 2007 (1.3.07, 2.2.07, 3.2.07, and 4.2.07).
